'Port Albert' and 'Alberton' are mostly interchangeable
'Port Fairy' & 'Belfast' are mostly interchangeable
The spelling of place names has been modernised for consistency

'Papers for' or 'File on' means a bundle of related papers under the one number & in the same folder
'Depasturing' licence and 'Squatters' licence were synonymous & were of the nature of an agistment charge based on numbers of stock that the land was estimated to be capable of carrying
'Occupation' licence was a rental for land & was based on area
